19 members of Saville Group, aka Saville Stingrays, volunteered to take part in the annual race - which involves three heats of intense rowing races as enthusiastic supporters and visitors of York cheer words of encouragement from the side lines. The sun made a welcome appearance as homemade fairy cakes and BBQ’s were devoured as hungry team members refuelled.
Sunday morning started with a strong first race from the Saville Stingrays – who quickly went from last in the race to first. ‘’It was a better comeback than a Rocky fight!’’, says David Willie. We followed this victory by taking second place in the second heat and ending the day with a strong effort up against the fastest teams with a respectable time of 1:26 – not quite fast enough to beat the final winners of the challenge, Swift RAF of Linton on Ouse.
Most importantly, Saville Stingrays raised an astounding £1,500 for Anxiety UK – a truly inspiring charity raising awareness of mental health. The vibrant atmosphere was a great representation of how a little team spirit goes a significantly long way. The fact that everyone there was supporting a cause they feel passionate about made it all the more unforgettable.
We would like to say a huge well done to all those who took part and we already look forward to what the next year will bring…
